Talgarth Mill featured on Countryfile in December as the BBC team explored water use in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Presenter Sammi Kinghorn heard how the river Enig joins the Ellywe which powers our waterwheel before flowing out of town and into the River Wye. The crew filmed volunteer Dick Donovan as he milled locally grown wheat then downed tools to sample Trigg’s cakes made with Talgarth Mill strong flour.

Talgarth Mill once formed the beating heart of the area, grinding corn for local farmers, until it fell into disrepair in the 1940s. That all changed in 2011 when, thanks to the Mill’s owner, National Lottery Funding and the local community, the Mill complex was restored to full working order.


Today, Talgarth Mill is a Grade II listed building and is the only working watermill in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The Mill forms a vibrant visitor attraction, café and bakery and is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting this beautiful area.

At Talgarth Mill we produce only wholemeal flour – we add nothing and take nothing away. Our water-powered wheel powerfully turns the Mill’s machinery to allow a pair of millstones made from ‘French Burr Stone’ to grind the grain – which is sourced from farms and growers as local to the Mill as possible.
